Today, Woodford County High School proudly celebrated its 106th birthday with a full day of exciting activities and events for students across all year groups.

The day began with students bringing in the delicious cakes they had baked at home for the Cake Competition, which were displayed in SG8 for everyone to admire. Meanwhile, Year 11 set off for an adventure at Thorpe Park, and Year 10 headed to Rollerbowl, both trips promising fun filled experiences.

At 9:00am, the traditional Parade of Banners took place, featuring Years 7, 8, 9, and 13. This parade proudly showcased banners created by students both past and present, highlighting the creativity and school spirit of generations of pupils.

They paraded quietly to the Main Hall for the Annual School Birthday Assembly.

Back on school grounds, Year 7 students took on the Year 7 Challenge on the field, showing teamwork and determination.

At 10:15am, the school community gathered for a short break, Years 7, 8 and 9 enjoyed their break while visitors and staff were treated to coffee and cake in the Front Hall, including the ceremonial cutting of the School Birthday Cake.

The morning also featured some competitive and creative challenges:

  • Year 9 participated in Dragons’ Den, pitching innovative ideas 

  • Year 8 took part in a Quiz and an interactive Murder Mystery 

Lunchtime was staggered for each year group, giving everyone a chance to relax and refuel. After lunch, students collected their cakes from the competition and returned to their activities:

  • Year 8 continued their Quiz and Murder Mystery challenges with different class groupings.

  • Year 9 continued Dragons’ Den in their form rooms.

  • Year 7 resumed the Challenge on the field.

A highlight of the afternoon was the Dragons’ Den pitches to the Dragons in the Main Hall and the final scene of the Year 8 Murder Mystery.

The day concluded with Years 7, 8, 9, and 13 finishing their celebrations and reflecting on a fun filled day marking another successful year in the life of Woodford.
