The day began with students bringing in the delicious cakes they had baked at home for the Cake Competition, which were displayed in SG8 for everyone to admire. Meanwhile, Year 11 set off for an adventure at Thorpe Park, and Year 10 headed to Rollerbowl, both trips promising fun filled experiences.

At 9:00am, the traditional Parade of Banners took place, featuring Years 7, 8, 9, and 13. This parade proudly showcased banners created by students both past and present, highlighting the creativity and school spirit of generations of pupils.

Woodford Celebrates - 40 Years On: Reminiscing the Summer Production 1982-2022

On the 27^th June 2022 an assessor from the South West Grid for Learning visited Woodford County High School to review the school’s e-safety provision. The Assessor met school teaching and non-teaching staff, SLT, parents, Governors and students and was very pleased to find that the school provides a high level of protection for users of new technologies.

‘Living with Covid’ at Woodford

You will be aware that from 1 April 2022 the remaining Covid-19 legal requirements in England (aimed at preventing the spread of the virus) were removed.  Several recommendations remain in place in the form of guidance.  Significantly, testing (lateral flow or PCR) is no longer free and while isolation guidance for those with symptoms (or with positive tests) remains in place, it is no longer mandatory.

Our priorities in school have not changed.  We are committed to doing all we can to support the health and wellbeing of those in the WCHS community and to maintaining a full and first rate educational provision for students on our site.  Infection rates (locally and nationally) remain high, but at WCHS (as elsewhere) we need to learn to “live with Covid” for the foreseeable future.

To this end, I draw the following guidance to your attention:

WCHS stands in solidarity with victims of racism

Woodford County High School stands in solidarity with all those who are feeling pain and finding non-violent means to express anger and outrage about the brutal murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week. As a school, we stand in solidarity with black students, staff and families, and recommit to valuing diversity and to fighting inequality and inequity.  We are proud of the courage and integrity of our students in exercising a right to make their voices heard. 

COVID-19:  Requirements of anyone visiting the school

Woodford County High School for Girls is asking for the support of all those who visit the school in minimising the risk of COVID-19 to its community.

1. You are asked to refrain from visiting the school if you have travelled from or transited through  any of the following countries or areas in the time scale indicated:

• anywhere in Italy on or after 9 March
• specific areas in northern Italy in the last 14 days: Lombardy region (which includes the cities of Milan, Bergamo and Como),the provinces of Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Rimini, Pesaro e Urbino (in Marche), Alessandria, Asti, Novara, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and Vercelli (all in Piemonte), Padova, Treviso and Venice (in Veneto)

Woodford County High School first opened to its pupils on 29 September 1919.  Seven teachers oversaw the education of 110 girls in a building which would doubtless be familiar to us, but had only recently been repurposed having served as a military hospital throughout World War One. Over the intervening century the school has increased ten-fold in size. While its core purpose remains unchanged, the ways in which it prepares girls to thrive in adult life is constantly evolving.

Woodford County High School receives award for Online Safety

On Monday, Woodford’s Orchestra took a trip to Churchfields Junior School to take part in a joint musical workshop and a concert. The orchestras collaborated on two well-known pieces – Grieg’s ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ and Holst’s ‘Mars – The Bringer of War’, both of which are currently featured in the BBC’s 10 Pieces project. The resultant sound of two excellent orchestras performing together was impressive – and both young and older musicians alike demonstrated excellent musicianship and professionalism in their rehearsals and resulting concert to an audience of family and friends. The project was a fantastic opportunity for Woodford’s musicians to act as musical role models to younger students – and to have a lot of fun doing it! We look forward to more collaborations in future.
