Woodford wins the Music Excellence Award

The Music Excellence Award celebrates schools which demonstrate an outstanding commitment to music.  It should be no surprise to those who support our varied calendar of concerts then that Woodford is the 2017 winner in the Secondary School category.   Woodford has a lively and ever-developing extra-curricular programme in Music, delivered by a skilled team of classroom and peripatetic teachers. The range of ensembles is extensive - including choirs, orchestras, jazz and brass bands - while student-led ensembles, such as a Carnatic Music Group, also flourish. Students perform in regular concerts and solo recitals, and annual joint concerts and events with the local boys' school enable students to perform as part of a full-sized symphony orchestra and SATB choir. Different styles of musical performance are facilitated through the annual Battle of the Bands event, Summer Arts Festival and a range of both staff- and student-led musical theatre and Bollywood-style productions. Woodford's first international Musical tour, including a performance at the iconic GhentFest in Belgium, was a success, and a second tour is planned for next summer. Students also perform regularly in the local community, including at local churches and care homes.

Miss Hasler, our Head of Music, was delighted to accept this well-earned accolade  from Darcy Bussell at the Mayor’s Education Conference in City Hall.
