at the Women’s World Day of Prayer

Twelve members of the WCHS Singers spent the afternoon of Friday 1st March at All Saints’ Woodford Wells, leading singing and worship in a service celebrating the international ‘Women’s World Day of Prayer’. This year’s service, which was prepared by women of the church in France, was based on the theme ‘I was a stranger and you welcomed me’, which was depicted in the service by the wearing of different coloured scarves by several students, who also read and led prayers on the theme. The contributions of the choir were much appreciated by the congregation, and in particular, their performance of Bill Withers’ gospel song ‘Lean On Me’ provided an enjoyable musical interlude during the service. The Women’s World Day of Prayer is celebrated in numerous countries around the world on the same day, starting in Samoa early in the morning, and finishing with a service 36 hours later, in the country of American Samoa. Woodford County’s involvement in the local service has continued for more than twenty years, and we hope will continue for much longer!
