The internationally-renowned tabla player and music producer Kuljit Bhamra visited Woodford last Thursday to lead a workshop on Indian Music and improvisation with a group of year 8 students. After giving them a whistlestop tour of the principles of Hindustani music, Kuljit led the students in rag-based improvisation, before giving a brief introduction to tabla playing. The next day, the students watched Kuljit live in concert at the Wigmore Hall, performing a variety of Indian and jazz fusions as part of the London Jazz Festival.
