    STRUCTURE OF COURSE 

    Two teachers will deliver the content of the A Level over the 2 year course.  The taught content will be split equally and will reflect the interests and skills of the individual teacher.  

    ASSESSMENT 

    Terminal assessment at the end of the 2 year course 

    Paper 1: Physical Systems (22%) 1 hour 45 minute exam

    Paper 2: Human Interactions (22%) 1 hour 45 minute exam

    Paper 3: Geographical Debates (36%) 2 hour 30 minute exam

    Independent investigation – coursework (20%)

    Physical Systems:

    Landscape Systems (Glaciated Landscapes and Processes)

    Water and Carbon cycles

    Human Interactions:

    Changing Spaces; Making Places

    Global Connections: i) Trade in the Contemporary World, ii) Powers and Borders

    Geographical Debates:

    Disease Dilemmas

    Hazardous Earth

    Independent investigation

    An individually planned geographical enquiry with some teacher support.  Primary fieldwork required.

    POSSIBLE CAREER PATHS 

    Geography is a wide-ranging subject in terms of its content and the variety of skills that are developed. For this reason it can lead to a huge variety of different career paths.  Take a look at the Schools & Education pages at www.rgs.org for a detailed insight into the wide range of careers that geography can lead to.

    It stands you in good stead for careers in: Town Planning, Climate Change Policy, Politics, Law, Civil Engineering, Public Relations, Marketing, International Aid and Policy Planning and the Environment Agency (to name but a few).  

    POSSIBLE SUBJECT COMBINATIONS 

    Studying Geography at A Level goes well with all subjects as it has aspects that are both science and arts based. There are statistical skills as well as essay writing. It goes very well with Economics, History, English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
