ADMISSIONS TO GRAMMAR SCHOOLS AT 11+

Woodford County High School for girls is a Grammar School and as such places are allocated using the results of an 11+ selection test taken by pupils.  Student living in the Common Catchment Area have priority in the allocation of places.

  • There are 180 places available for Y7 students. The standard of the tests is high. Please consider carefully if your daughter has the ability to take the tests.  If you are not sure about your child’s ability, please talk to her Headteacher or class teacher who can advise you.  Even if your daughter’s school thinks your child has the ability to take the test, this does not guarantee that a place will be offered.  The school is oversubscribed.
  • If you would like your child to be considered for Woodford you must firstly register your daughter to take the test.  Registration is online through the Redbridge website. Registration will be open from 1 May 2024 and will close at 5pm on 30 June 2024or girls who are then in Year 5.

You will be required to provide proof of address and proof of date of birth.

  • The 180 places at Woodford County High School will be offered to the 180 girls with the highest scores who both have not put a different school at a higher preference to Woodford for which they are eligible and live in the Common Catchment Area. 
  • Places are only awarded out of the catchment area if there are not enough students within the common catchment area who have applied for places.  In practice, no places are ever awarded out of the catchment area.

      For students who have scored over the pass mark, priority for places will be as follows: 

  1. Looked after children and previously looked after children;
  2. Up to 45 places (i.e 25% of the places available) will be offered to children living in the common catchment area who are entitled to the pupil premium, according to the total standardised score in overall order of merit;
  3. Other children living in the catchment area, according to the total standardised score in overall order of merit.
  4. (Children living outside the catchment area, according to the total standardised score in overall order of merit.)

  • Where there is more than one such candidate with the same score, the tie-break will be the shortest measured walking distance, as measured by a Geographic Information System, from the child's home to the main entrance of the school [using public roads and recognised footpaths (it should be noted that when measurements involve flats in the same block, the distance will be to the entrance of each individual flat)]. In using distance as a tie-breaker, should there be more than one applicant for a final place living an identical distance from the school in question, the Authority will use the random allocation facility within the Tribal “Admissions and Transfers System” pupil database which is used for allocations.

  • There will be a “pass mark”  and no one scoring lower than the pass mark will be added to the waiting list.

    When a vacancy arises on the waiting list, it will be offered to the next highest qualifying candidate according to the total standardised score in overall order of merit, following the over subscription criteria as detailed above. Where there is more than one such candidate with the same score, the tie-break will be the shortest measured walking distance, as measured by a Geographic Information System.
