Head Girl’s Welcome
Hello, my name is Dhanisha Sivalingam, and I warmly welcome you to Woodford County High School.
My years at Woodford County have been happy ones, and I can with complete confidence claim that our school is a place where everyone can fulfil their potential within a vibrant, supportive environment. The traditions of Woodford help forge strong bonds within our school body with celebrations such as the lively School Birthday and the frenzied Five Penny Race, allowing us to celebrate both our rich history and our current achievements. The ‘Woodford spirit’ defines our school and ensures that our local reputation is unparalleled. This reputation is enhanced by the many community events we immerse ourselves in, and sixth formers are encouraged to participate in House Charity Week and countless fundraisers. This volunteering is not only fun, but it also promotes personal development and allows us to be part of something bigger than simply the school and its fame for academic success.
Teaching is first-rate with supportive, engaged staff who are inspirational in the classroom and guide us to become motivated, independent learners. The atmosphere in the classrooms is dynamic and welcoming, with teachers using a blend of academic rigour, cutting edge technology and humour to create a focused environment. We are not left to flounder if we fail to grasp a concept; drop-in sessions are available to give us additional help if needed, and teachers go the extra mile to ensure we flourish in our subjects. We are also given careful, expert guidance through our UCAS applications and plenty of help exploring other routes post-18, such as apprenticeships and specialist colleges. Careers fairs and regular talks from leading experts in their field ensure that we are well-equipped for life beyond our beautiful grounds and wood-panelled rooms that are rather reminiscent of Hogwarts!
The diverse society at Woodford makes certain that all students will find like-minded friends who guarantee their school years are ones worth remembering. Students join us in year seven from dozens of different primary schools. Similarly, in year 12, new students arrive from a range of schools, ensuring a varied intake, leading to a tolerant, vibrant student body from year 7 to year 13. We are lucky that we all have the usage of the vast green playing fields and the well-equipped music rooms. Sixth formers have access to the Sixth Form block, which provides a space for students to mingle with one another, whether this is through studying or socialising, and reflects the warm atmosphere of the school. There’s even a ping pong table outside, which is a firm favourite with us!
Furthermore, Woodford County provides an environment where all interests and passions are nurtured. From sporting activities such as football and yoga to a range of societies such as Amnesty International and Model UN, students of all ages are presented with a plethora of opportunities for self-development. We are also invited to undertake leadership roles such as prefects, ‘Silver Badge’, and Sports Captains. The teenage years are an exciting time to experiment, to explore, to grow; our school is the perfect place to do this.
Woodford students leave the school with a fantastic set of results tucked under their arms, ready to start the next exciting stage of their life with a collection of truly happy memories of a very special school experience.
