Head Student’s Welcome

Hello. My name is Sukhmani and I am delighted to welcome you to Woodford County High School.

Ever since joining Woodford, it was my dream to become Head Girl of this prestigious school – I am proud and honoured to hold this position.  Woodford is an exceptional place to learn – each and every student is encouraged to strive for excellence, challenged to improve, supported to reach their maximum potential, and is celebrated for reaching milestones and goals.  We are exposed to new ideas and opportunities right from the very start of year 7, making our time spent at Woodford one of growth, development and most importantly, lots of fun.

Our teachers are our mentors. They go above and beyond to support the learning and development of students.  They teach us to aim higher than high, and through their enthusiasm and commitment, create an environment which is welcoming, intellectual, inspiring, challenging, positive, and safe. The unwavering dedication of our teachers contributes significantly to our outstanding results.  Lessons are stimulating and students are encouraged to have a voice – I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the class discussions and debates, which have equipped me with essential skills and knowledge.

As well as our outstanding academic performance, there is so much more to Woodford than the grades.  Students are spoilt for choice with the array of clubs and societies – there is something for everyone.  Music, arts, sports and more, there are a myriad of clubs and societies to join, allowing students to enrich their lives outside the classroom and form friendships with like minded peers. Students are encouraged to run clubs and societies to represent their own interests, such as the popular kalimba club. I myself have been an active member of many clubs and societies, such as the Model UN, which has not only equipped me with the confidence and transferrable skills necessary to uphold the position of Head Girl, but has also given me the opportunity to attend some fantastic conferences and events.

Although drama isn’t a subject option at Woodford, the art of performance is ingrained in our history. For our annual student-led House Drama, houses come together and entertain the school community with their artistic and theatrical talents – it is a truly exhilarating and highly anticipated time of year, which brings house spirit to life. We are also privileged to have our very own teachers band, ‘Bad Grammar’ who dazzle us with their electric performances multiple times a year!

At Woodford, we make a conscious effort to give back to others in our local and wider community. We regularly raise both awareness and money for those in need, with a large annual donation given to our neighbouring charity, Haven House.

During Sixth Form, students come into their own.  With course specific university talks, Oxbridge and UCAT preparation courses, UCAS talks and guidance, an extensive range of super-curricular opportunities, apprenticeship taster sessions and much more, there is significant opportunity for personal development in preparation for university and life after school.  Personally, I have found the fortnightly one-on-one meetings with my form tutor particularly useful.  Students leave Woodford as polished individuals, instilled with confidence, ambition, discipline and respect, ready to face the world.

Woodford will always hold a special place in my heart.  We are more than just a school community – we are a family.  I will leave with brilliant memories and life-long friends, and I am eternally grateful for the years I have spent here and the opportunities I have been blessed with during this time. I am confident that you will love Woodford just as much as I do!
