Our aim in Key Stage 3 (years 7-9) is to give all girls access to a broad and balanced curriculum which will equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to develop as young learners.

All girls at Woodford County High School follow the National Curriculum laid down by the Department for Education. This covers all subjects except Religious Education, where they will follow the syllabus agreed locally by the Statutory Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE). In addition all girls spend one hour each week on Personal, Social, Health and Careers Education (PSHCE).

In Year 9 all girls begin to study for GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. In the case of the sciences, we feel it is important for our very able cohort to be given the opportunity of studying all three full GCSE sciences. They are perfectly capable of doing so and of completing Key Stage 3 science in two years. Starting in Year 9 has the added benefit of avoiding a narrowing of the curriculum in Years 10 & 11. The rationale for starting Mathematics in Year 9 is similar. The vast majority of our students require the challenge of speedier coverage of Key Stage 3 Mathematics content.

Assessment and reporting in Key Stage 3 is carried out using our own methodology and is based on student progress. This is explained in full at the Year 7 Curriculum Evening in October. For further details, please consult the documents below.
