House Drama
In November the houses compete to perform the best musical production in our House Drama festival. This is perhaps the most hotly-contested competition of them all. Indeed, the competition is so popular that the House Captains were determined for it to go ahead in November 2020 even with stringent Covid restrictions in place. 2020 therefore saw the first instance of an entirely pre-recorded set of productions, although they stuck as closely as possible to the prerequisites of a normal House Drama competition.
The productions are entirely adapted, acted, sung and directed by the girls, who also have to play the instrumental music live – pre-recorded backing tracks are not allowed. In 2022 the productions were Hadestown (Highams), Aladdin (Newton), Anastasia (Repton) and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (Warner). The performances are judged by three professionals in the fields of production, acting and music and following the event there is an Oscars-style award ceremony. This year’s winner for Best Production was Highams.
